The rules issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India in 2003 state that plastic bags made of virgin or recycled plastic below 20 micron are banned for manufacture, use, stock & sale. In accordance with this rule, Sahjeevan, along with citizens (from the city support group) and schools of Bhuj, is putting in its efforts for awareness about this rule, as well as recycling and ban of plastic bags under 20 micron.

As a part of this program, Sahjeevan is conducting awareness campaigns through workshops, rallies, street plays and competitions with citizens and schools, frequent dialogues with Municipality and collection of plastics from various areas and schools through plastic collection centres. Collected plastic bags are recycled by Khamir, a voluntary organisation working with artisans and craftsmen, to produce hand bags, mats, etc.
